Thanks to the ability of the titanium dioxide molecule to exploit its own photocatalytic characteristic, generating ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species), elements capable of transforming harmful organic substances into harmless inorganic molecules (H2O and CO2).

In this way, an antimicrobial action develops with which the bacteria and fungi that attack the surfaces are eliminated thanks to the strong oxidizing power of the photocatalyst.

Photocatalysis does not actually kill bacteria cells, but decomposes them. It has been discovered that the antibacterial effect with the use of titanium turns out to be more effective than any other antimicrobial agent, because the photocatalytic reaction also works when there are cells covering the surface and when the bacteria are actively propagating. In this way it manages to circumvent the biofilm created by bacteria and be effective where traditional chemical sanitizers are less performing.
